Managing stress can be a gradual process so begin by taking a look at your lifestyle. If you have a lot of stress in your life, find ways to reduce it, such as asking your partner to help with chores in the house, taking a relaxing yoga class, or talking to your boss about changing your working hours. Another step can be to introduce some form of regular exercise and to set aside some time for yourself, for example, to take a bath or listen to music. Taking control of your time in this way can effectively reduce stress. It can be easy to rush through life without stopping to notice much but when you pay more attention to the present moment; you can improve your mental wellbeing. This awareness is often called: ‘mindfulness’ and you can take steps to develop it in your own life by becoming more aware of the present moment. In simple terms, this means noticing the detail of every moment: the sights, smells, sounds and tastes that you experience, as well as the thoughts and feelings that occur from one moment to the next.
