Students at Leicester College were asked to produce work focussing on the things that helped to keep them well during lockdown. We were very impressed with all the work submitted into the project. Professional artists Emma Fay, Gillian McFarland and Siyuan Ren assessed the creativity and selected these pieces to feature in a gallery at Leicester Museums.

’Amid the pandemic when our mental health has been pushed to its limits, the need for creativity has never been more apparent. The #artliftinglockdown project has given our students a platform to express themselves through compelling visual art. It was an inspiration to see our young people immerse themselves in this project creating honest, thought evoking images’.

“Assessing the entries for the college winners is extremely challenging and also really rewarding. The quality of ideas expressing what keeps them well and the great intent in sharing this with others makes it very to pick only a few pieces, but the time spent deciding between work really makes you appreciate their artistic process and skills creating the work. I hope everyone is always encouraged to keep contributing their art and their thoughts on well-being, it is a vital topic to discuss and you never know who may come across an entry that really personally connects with and helps them.”
