Congratulations to all the children selected for The Desford Community Primary School Audio Yellow Book 2nd Edition!

The personalised wellbeing resource features students cover art and spoken word poetry and will be available for all pupils, staff and parents to download for free.

Thanks to all at the school for embracing the project and to all the pupils for creating such fantastic work! A special thank you to Head Teacher Colin Wilson and PSHE Lead and Teacher: Becky Worley for all the support and work with the project.

A wellbeing Assembly was provided by Pete Hirst and Phil Seaman of rethinkyourmind and the band refuge. Students then created art and poetry inspired by the things they are most thankful for and the ‘Notes of Thanks’ project song –  Creativity came from the whole school and assessor Siyuan Ren aka The Peony Girl had the challenging job of selecting pieces from each class. From the class selections pieces were then selected to become the cover art for the wellbeing resource and the Mindful Med (Mindful Meditation) which features on it. We are delighted that some of the poems created by the children have also been read by the children and feature as spoken word on the resource.

The Audio Yellow Book is a digital wellbeing resource, providing simple tools, practices and music with the aim to help empower people in maintaining their health.

All class pieces were inspired by gratitude and the music/lyrics of the song ‘Notes of Thanks’.

To celebrate 10 years of The Yellow Book the ‘Notes of Thanks’ single was written around the theme of gratitude. So many fantastic artists and organisations came on board to support and record on the song. We were delighted that James Douglas Films helped to produce a music video from the studio recordings at Deadline Studios. He then filmed The Primary School Yellow Book Choir made up of pupils from 5 primary schools in Sawbridgeworth. The video also featured the fantastic creative work sent from acclaimed body artist and project assessor Emma Fay.

We send a huge thank you to Siyuan Ren who helped to assess all the incredible entries from the school

“My paintings are often described by others as romantic and melancholy. Flowers are the constant subject of my art, and above all, my passion lies in painting peonies the national flower of China reflecting my deep love and nostalgia for the country of my birth.

Among all the different styles of Chinese painting, I like gongbi the most its fine and elegant strokes are perfect for portraying the delicate beauty of flowers. However, the extreme delicacy and meticulousness required in the gongbi technique also makes itself a test of patience and spiritual equilibrium such qualities are now rare to see in fast-paced modern society. I take joy from this trial every time when I paint, and experience it as a self-meditation, as a quiet respite from a hectic modern life. The traditional Four Treasures of the Study used in Chinese painting brush, ink, paper and ink stone creates a tangible atmosphere of Chinese culture no matter where I am. I feel I am on a life long mission to introduce classical Chinese art and culture to the world.”
