ABOUT THE ARTIST
Lydia Towsey is a poet & performer with an MA in Creative Writing. Previous commissions include: Spoken Word All Stars Tour (Poet in the City); Beyond Words — U.K. tour of South African poets, (Apples and Snakes), and Three the Hard Way, alongside Jean Binta Breeze and Shruti Chauhan. Decibel commissioned, in 2008 she was one of 50 international artists in residence, at Stratford Theatre Royal. Shortlisted for the Bridport Poetry Prize, her experiences include Chairing the Yellow Book Panel and performing at London’s 100 Club. Featured in Hallelujah for 50ft Women (Bloodaxe) and ‘10 Poems about Knitting (Candlestick Press) amongst others, she is currently touring the stage show of her collection, The Venus Papers (Burning Eye Books) with Arts Council England support. In addition to her work as a poet, Lydia is Chair of WORD! – Midlands’ longest running spoken word night; Brightsparks, arts in health group, and part time Arts in Mental Health Coordinator for Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust.
