The symmetry of the piece represents the order and balance in life necessary to maintain good mental health. The mixture of papers used for the flowers represent the variety of experiences and opportunities that co-exist with good mental health and show an ability to cope with change and difference.

Putting Life In Perspective
Life will bring problems and challenges, but rather than let them drag you down put them into perspective. Always think of others worse off than you, what you have you can be thankful for, and look around you. See the beauty of the world, and think how you fit into it. I am a diver, and this photo I took is of the handrails on the Sunken Rainbow Warrior Greenpeace Ship. Out of such a terrible act of terrorism, the disaster actually increased awareness of Greenpeace’s cause, and the jewelled beauty of the ship now, highlights how good can come out of bad. So always look for the good in things and people, even if all seems black initailly.
Use the ‘POllYANNA” effect. (If you are old enough to remember that TV programme|)

Mark Haward – Devon:
Life is a Work In Progress.
Art can be a great solace and therapy. I have a big silk panel which I paint in stages. On a day when i am stressed or frustrated I paint in gentle colours and curves to calm me down.On days when I am sad or tired I make myself paint in bold colours and big prints to cheer myself up and give me my confidence back.
I would recommend always having a project ‘on the go’ as a way to express yourself . Smile, be Confident, act positively to lift your mood, and be proud of your achievements.

Do You Like Your Own Reflection?
We all dislike parts of our characters, that’s natural
But it is important for our own mental health that we mostly like who we are. Recognising what we don’t like about ourselves, is the first step to bringing about change. Focus on people you respect, not their superficial exterior but those who’s warmth, generousity, and happiness draw you in.
Spend time with them and their positivity may rub off on you. Be open with them and yourself about issues and they will welcome you in.

Fiona Haward – Devon:
Phases of Life
In life there are phases. When you are young and helpless, when you grew and become the helper and when you are old and need help. This is a stereotype which shouldn’t always be true.
In a family or community group, regardless of age or health, EVERYONE must have self worth, feel valuable and feel they still have a valid contribution to make.
The old have a wealth of experiences and wisdom to share with youngsters who haven’t trodden that road before. The teenager should feel their contribution to a unit is valued and appreciated as they became more able and independent. The adults must encourage interactions between all generations with love.
Primarily if there is love, respect, co-operation and diversity within the group , then each individual member can contribute to and gain from being one of the ‘schoal’.
-
-
Fiona Haward – Devon:
Life is all about being positive, looking beyond the small distracting things in life, and focus on the big picture, prioritising what really matters.
Immerse yourself with colour, surround and support yourself with positive, confident people, so you can help those swimming beneath you.
Remember the sands of life are superficial, it is the rocks you will cling onto when the tide washes to and fro.
Reach high, and climb confidently with friends.

With good mental health I can create art such as this oil painting of one of the lakes in the Englsh lake district . Being amongst mountains calms my soul and inspires me every single second I am there . I chose this painting to upload because of the sense of peace in it and the idea of freedom . Ive suffered from severe depression for many years and have only recently beat it . Painting helps enormously . It lifts me and releases endorphins and seratonin and I sing whilst I paint too . The creative process allows me to see the world as a beautiful place and that shift of mind keeps me well . Life is glorious .
